Behavior Management Assistant - CI - Avalon Elementary
Staff members making application must meet or be able to meet “Highly Qualified” standards as outlined by the State and Federal guidelines.
Job Goal: To assist the teacher in reaching/obtaining student achievement goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma with Work Keys test; two years college course work; Associates’ Degree or Bachelor’s Degree, required.
- Certification of good health, as required.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or his/her designee may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Classroom Teacher/Building Principal
Responsibilities & Duties Include:
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Guide independent student, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
- Assist with such large group activities reading aloud, and story-telling.
- Read to students, listen to students read & participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Help students with their clothing; assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routine; assist with wash-up and toilet routine.
- Alert the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
- Employee shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Terms of Employment: Class I; Based on student need (as outlined in the current CBA); 5 to 7 hours per day (hours/days vary dependent upon classroom assignment)
ADA Requirements Include: Classroom environment; sitting, walking, bending, stooping, talking, listening, standing, paper and computer work; interacting with students and parents; handling money, confidentiality.
Compensation: Entrance level: $13.71 - Maximum level: $15.96
Benefits and compensation in accordance with Paraprofessional Collective Bargaining Agreement.
